Man arrested for porch package theft

A 29-year-old convict already in jail for theft was additionally charged Tuesday for stealing a package left on a woman’s porch.

Terrell Jamal Allen of Marathon was charged with grand theft.

A woman reported she was reviewing her video surveillance footage at her residence on Ibis Lane when she saw a suspect, later identified as Allen, approach her front door at 1:27 p.m. on Dec. 25, knock on the door and they pick up a delivery package. Allen can be seen opening the package containing $364.80 worth of clothes and then leaving with it.

Detective Sgt. Trevor Wirth immediately recognized the suspect as Allen from similar crimes in the area which resulted in Allen’s arrest that same day — Dec. 25. Detective Sgt. Wirth noticed Allen was wearing the same clothing in the Ibis Lane video footage as he was in another theft case in which the victim had security footage. Warrants were filed for the additional charge.

Allen remains in jail on a total of two counts of burglary, two counts of theft, one count of grand theft and failure to register as a convicted felon. His bail is now $77,500.

Allen was released from state prison in August 2018 after serving about a year for a litany of convictions out of Pinellas County that included trafficking in stolen property, credit card fraud and child abuse.
