Man arrested for illegal fish

An 18-year-old Islamorada man was arrested early Tuesday morning for possessing illegal parrotfish and gray angelfish.

Zachary Isaac Camacho was charged with possession of dead parrotfish, possession of over-the-size-limit parrotfish, possession of dead gray angelfish and possession of over-the-size-limit gray angelfish.

Deputy Meghan Foster was on patrol near the Vaca Cut Bridge in Marathon at approximately 12:30 a.m. when she spotted two men under the bridge. One man possessed a speargun with fish on the spear.

The man with the speargun was identified as Camacho.

He was found to be in possession of three dead parrotfish and two dead gray angelfish.

Both species are aquarium species with a slot limit under Florida law and must be kept alive for aquarium use when harvested.
