Man arrested for hitting/kicking Deputies

A 32-year-old Key West, Florida man was arrested Thursday after reaching for a machete while being questioned about an emaciated dog in his possession.

Crucito Serrano Solano was charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest with violence, and camping in a no-camping area.

The Sheriff’s Office and Key West Police Department responded to the Key Haven boat ramp at approximately 11 a.m. to assist animal control officers regarding an emaciated pit bull with puppies. The dogs’ owner, Solano, was living in a tent. He stated no one was taking the dogs.

Solano ignored multiple commands to exit the tent as he reached for a machete. A struggle ensued and the adult dog bit a Deputy multiple times while Solano kicked and hit law enforcement officers. Solano was eventually shocked with a Taser. There were no serious injuries reported.

Solano was taken to jail. All the dogs were turned over to the SPCA.
