Man arrested for fraud

A 35-year-old Orlando, Florida man was arrested Thursday for attempting to forge a fake $5,000 check from the Marathon Chamber of Commerce.

Jameson Louis was charged with larceny, fraud, and forgery.

The Chamber notified the Sheriff’s Office in April that their bank notified them that Louis attempted to cash the fake check. A Chamber member stated they do not know Louis and do not do business with anyone with that name.

Criminal Investigations Unit Detectives obtained a warrant for Louis’ arrest and he was booked into jail on Thursday.

Construction contractors working with the Florida Department of Transportation will begin alternating traffic at approximately Mile Marker 75 near the Sea Oats Beach area beginning Monday, May 8, 2023.

Two lanes of traffic will go to one lane with flagmen directing motorists from approximately 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, through the end of July.

Crews have been doing construction in that area nightly but will begin working day shifts due to turtle nesting season.

Motorists should expect delays through the area and plan accordingly.
