Man arrested for drug possession after jumping into the water   

A 59-year-old Key Largo man was arrested Wednesday night after fleeing from Deputies and jumping into the water.

Enrique Blasco was charged with possession of cocaine with intent to sell, resisting arrest, tampering with evidence and smuggling contraband into a detention facility.

The Sheriff’s Office received a tip that Blasco was selling drugs at the Caribbean Club in Key Largo. Deputies Joel Torres, Kyle Page, Jamie Miller, Michael O’Connor and Jason Farr responded at 11:23 p.m.

Deputies Joel Torres and O’Connor went inside the bar and Deputy Torres recognized Blasco therein from previous encounters with law enforcement. Deputy Torres asked to speak to Blasco outside. Blasco then fled on foot once outside and ran toward the boat ramp behind the Caribbean Club while all the Deputies gave chase. Blasco then leapt into the water.

Deputies Miller and  Torres jumped into the water after Blasco and all three men were submerged in water over their heads. Deputies Torres and Miller felt Blasco rummaging through his pockets while in the water.

Deputy Page subsequently found sandwich baggie in the water. Inside the bag were five smaller baggies contained a white powder that tested positive for cocaine. Approximately four grams of cocaine were recovered.

Blasco was taken to jail where another small baggie was found in his pocket that also tested positive for cocaine.

Blasco was booked into jail.
