Man arrested for double hit-and-run in Key Largo

A 52-year-old Key Largo man was arrested Friday night after striking two parked vehicles at the Sharkey’s Pub & Galley Restaurant and leaving the scene.

Forest Rodger Clatterbaugh was charged with two counts of leaving the scene of a crash involving damage to property.

Deputy Cody Kerns was called the establishment at 10:37 p.m. whereupon two witnesses stated they saw an electrician’s van strike two vehicles in the parking lot and leave. Deputy Kerns noted a Chevrolet pickup truck had a dent in its bumper and the second vehicle, a Mazda car, had more significant damage, possibly to the frame of the car. The owners of both vehicles were found inside the restaurant and both stated they wished to press charges.

Deputy Kerns called the electrical business the witnesses reported seeing advertised on the side the suspect’s work truck. The owner of the business told Deputy Kerns that Clatterbaugh was the likely suspect. The business owner gave Deputy Kerns Clatterbaugh’s address. Multiple deputies went to that address. Deputies found a van matching the witnesses description in the driveway upon their arrival. The van had damage consistent with the damage to the Chevrolet pickup truck and Mazda car. A man matching the witnesses’ description of the driver was found sleeping on a couch on the back porch of the property. He was identified as Clatterbaugh.

Clatterbaugh was taken to jail.
