Man arrested for burglary

A 27-year-old Big Pine Key man was arrested Thursday night for breaking into a residence and vehicle.

Adrian Anthony Jones was charged with burglary of a conveyance, burglary of a dwelling, larceny and resisting and officer without violence.

An odd series of events began unfolding about 11:50 p.m. when Deputy Jonathan Lane was dispatched to an apartment complex on the 30000 block of the Overseas Highway on Big Pine Key regarding a man trying to enter a woman’s residence. Deputy Lane met with the woman who told him that a man, later identified as Jones, was looking through into her windows and knocking on the door. 911 Communications Specialists confirmed they heard knocking in the background when the woman called 911. The woman stated she told Jones to leave, but he said, “relax,” and continued to knock on the door.

A family member of the caller told Deputy Lane she arrived home to find Jones standing near a car parked outside that had its flashers on. During the conversation, Deputy Lane spotted Jones hiding behind a stairwell. Jones appeared drunk or on narcotics. Jones stated he lives in the apartment complex. Jones admitted to breaking into the car. Jones admitted to taking $10 from the car. Jones then took Deputy Lane to his residence, where Deputy Lane found two $5 bills on his bed and two large empty bottles of alcohol. Jones admitted to drinking the alcohol and repeatedly admitted to taking the $10 from the car.

As Deputy Lane was preparing to speak to the woman who owns the car, another female who lives in the complex called 911 to report a man recently came into her apartment and refused to leave. Her description matched Jones. Coincidently, both women, who live in separate apartments, both exited their front doors about the same time seeking to speak with Deputy Lane.

The owner of the car stated she did not give Jones permission to be in her car. The other woman stated Jones walked into her apartment and refused to leave, telling her to “shush,” and making other odd statements. That woman identified Jones as the suspect. When Jones left the apartment, he refused to let the woman lock the door for a few minutes and then began knocking on her door and window.

Jones admitted to all the allegations, stating he needs money.

Jones attempted to flee when Deputy Lane informed him he was under arrest. Jones knocked the body camera off Deputy Lanes’ uniform and then went limp and fell to the ground. By this time, Deputy Brandon White was also on scene and both Deputies placed Jones in Deputy Lanes’ patrol car.

Jones began hitting his head on the glass partition in Deputy Lanes’ patrol car while en route to jail.

Jones remained in jail Friday.
