Man arrested for burglary in Marathon

A Key West man was arrested Saturday afternoon, charged with burglarizing a home on 41st Street in Marathon.

The victim told Deputy Aaron Coller he was walking toward the door of his residence at 11 a.m. when he saw a man walking out the door. He said the home was damaged in the hurricane and the door does not lock properly. He said he yelled at the man, who then ran toward a neighboring house. The victim described the suspect as a white male, 5’9” tall, 160 pounds with sandy blond or brown hair. He said he’d seen him around the neighborhood the day before and thinks he goes by the initials CJ or something similar.

When the victim entered his house he discovered three cell phones missing, along with some size 12 red and white Reebok athletic shoes.

A short time later, Deputy Wilfredo Guerra was at a convenience store on 55th Street when he saw a man fitting the suspect’s description, wearing red, white and black Reebok athletic shoes. The man – identified as 30 year old Theodore French – was positively identified by the victim as the man he saw fleeing from his residence. French goes by the nickname “TJ”. The size 12 shoes he was wearing where the ones stolen from the victim’s house; a phone found in French’s pocket was one of the phones stolen as well.

French was arrested. He was charged with burglary and grand theft and he was taken to jail.
