Man arrested for battery

A 33-year-old Big Pine Key, Florida man was arrested for hitting another man in the head with a coral rock. There were no life-threatening injuries reported.

Newton Auer Brungart was charged with aggravated battery and theft.

The Sheriff’s Office was called to Warbler Lane on Big Pine Key at approximately 3:50 p.m. Friday to find the 60-year-old male victim with cuts to his head and arm. Brungart was found nearby shortly thereafter.

The investigation showed Brungart attacked the victim, hit him with a coral rock, and stole the victim’s bag containing his identification and miscellaneous belongings.
