Man arrested for battery

An intoxicated 24-year-old Key Largo man was arrested Monday after threatening Deputies who were attempting to restrain him following a disturbance at an Upper Keys restaurant and bar.

Joel Angel Santana was charged with battery on a law enforcement officer, battery, threats to a law enforcement officer, and disorderly intoxication.

The Sheriff’s Office was called to Sharkey’s Sharkbite Grill in Key Largo at approximately 12:15 a.m. regarding an assault. Deputies arrived to find security members escorting Santana out of the establishment. They stated Santana punched several people inside.

Santana resisted arrest and stated he was going to attack Deputies. He began kicking the patrol car door. He was booked into jail.

Man cited for undersized fish                                            

Mario Perez-Mendez, 35, of Miami, was given a mandatory notice to appear in court citation Sunday for possessing two undersized yellowtail snappers off Key Largo.

Perez-Mendez was fishing with multiple other people aboard a 21-foot vessel near Carysfort Reef at approximately 2 p.m. Perez-Mendez was the captain of the vessel. The Sheriff’s Office and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission inspected a cooler that contained two yellowtail snappers measuring under the 12-inch length required for harvest. Perez-Mendez claimed the fish.
