Man arrested for armed robbery

A 45-year-old Marathon man was arrested Tuesday night for robbery with a firearm regarding an incident that occurred Monday night.

Osvaldo Torna Rodriguez was booked into jail after he was Tuesday at his residence on Tropical Isle Apartments on 41st Street.

Deputy Wilfredo Guerra responded to the 200 block of 41st Street about 9 p.m. where he met the 14-year-old victim. The teenager told Deputy Guerra that he was walking down 41st Street alone about 11:45 p.m. Monday. The teenager stated a man known to him as “Chino” came up from behind him and put a gun to his chest. The teenager described the gun as a black, Glock pistol.  The teenager recognized “Chino” as someone who lives in the same apartment complex as him.

“Chino” demanded the gold chain the teen was wearing. The teenager gave “Chino” the necklace and ran home whereupon he told his brother what had transpired. It was unclear why neither the teenager nor his brother reported the incident immediately.

There were no reported injuries.

Multiple deputies converged on the area Tuesday night and began investigating the incident. The suspect, “Chino” as found in a unit at the Tropical Isle Apartments. “Chino” was identified as Torna Rodriguez. Witnesses and neighbors all identified Torna Rodriguez as “Chino.” The teenager also identified Torna Rodriguez as the man known to him as “Chino.”

Torna Rodriguez consented to a search of his residence. A black, BB handgun was found, which matched the description of the black pistol given by the teenager.

Torna Rodriguez was taken to jail.
