Man arrested for aggravated battery, battery

A Key West man was arrested today in Marathon, charged with battery on one man and aggravated battery on another.

Marathon deputies responded to a homeless encampment on 20th Street at 5:30 a.m. after someone called to report a fight inside a tent. After speaking with witnesses and the 32 year old male victim, they arrested 30 year old Alexander Garcia for hitting the victim in the face after the two men had a disagreement over a dog.

During the investigation of the battery, deputies also found the suspect had been involved in another altercation on 20th Street 1 a.m. During that incident, Garcia hit a 43 year old man in the back with a metal rake. The man still had an injury on his back from the rake and witnesses confirmed the victim’s account of the incident.

Garcia was arrested and charged with battery and aggravated battery.
