Man arrested after ruckus at Upper Keys hotel

A 34-year-old Miami man was arrested Sunday after fighting with family, hotel staff and Deputies.

Nelson Borges was charged with resisting officers with violence, disorderly conduct and assault on a law enforcement officer.

There were no serious injuries reported.

It took four responding officers — Sgt. Vaughn O’Keefe and Deputies Anfernee Rodriguez, Scott Costa and Ashley Monaco — to get Nelson in custody. The Sheriff’s Office responded to the Postcard Inn Beach Resort & Marina in Islamorada at approximately 9:52 p.m. regarding a fight. Deputy Rodriguez arrived first to find a female on top the suspect. The suspect was later identified as Borges. Borges had been fighting with family members and hotel staff.

Borges immediately began resisting Deputy Rodriguez and the arriving Deputies. He tensed his body, pulled away and kicked at Deputies. It required all four Deputies and multiple drive stuns from a Taser to get Borges in custody. A drive stun occurs when a Taser is placed directly against the suspect’s body.

Borges was taken to Mariners Hospital in Tavernier where he was medically cleared.

Borges was then taken to jail.
