Male body found in Jewfish Basin Tuesday

The body of an adult male was found on a flat in the vicinity of Jewfish Basin off Key West Tuesday afternoon.

A fisherman who found the body in very shallow water and notified authorities at approximately 3:30 p.m.

The remains were taken to U.S. Coast Guard Station Key West and then transferred to the Medical Examiner’s Office where autopsy results are pending.

Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit Detectives were still working on identifying the body as of Tuesday afternoon.

Whether or not the remains are those of David Martin Cottar, 60, of Key Haven, Stock Island, could not be confirmed as of Tuesday afternoon.

The remains of Elizabeth Estrada Cottar, 59, of Key West, were found Monday in Jewfish Basin near David Cottar’s 17-foot Boston Whaler. That investigation remains underway.

The pair left David Cottar’s home in the boat Sunday night for a sunset cruise as was common for them.
