Local Observation / Trifecta

By Christina Oxenberg

My two favorite bands came to Key West to play at my favorite bar and consequently I wouldn’t be home at all except the bands stopped playing.

Last Thursday Trae Pierce & the T-Stones were firing up The Green Parrot at 5:30 and I was missing that for nothing.

Trae Pierce and the T-Stones are only three years together and as they switch out musicians and refine their progress and add songs all I know for sure is I want so very much more. The great news is Mr. Trae Pierce of 4 Grammy wins tells me he’s busy writing songs. Halleluiah I say, bring it on Trae!

Their sound? Fusion of all that’s good. Clearly new terminology is needed for music because musical innovations are occurring faster than language.

It was crushing to watch them pack and drive away in the dark of night to somewhere a trillion hours away to perform a gig on Saturday.

They motored north and I barely had the strength to drag myself two whole blocks home.

I slept all day Saturday until 4pm when I had to crowbar myself from my comfy bed and with barely time to caffeinate and shower I had to get back to the Parrot for the start of Xperimento’s first show.

I was there dancing until the Parrot closed. And I’ll do it again tonight. What I can’t understand is how these musicians belting out all they’ve got and delivering the goods like Conquistadors home from a good plunder, how do they do it? Whence such superhuman energy? It’s something called the ‘Zone’ and it’s magnificent to observe.

So what if after three nights of dancing I am crippled? I’ll happily do it again tonight! And then I’ll collapse.

Thank you John Vagnoni, co-owner of the GP, for inviting the best of the best to your exceptional bar. A special shout out to the bartenders and bouncers who keep the peace and pace the pleasure in an atmosphere of unbridled excitement.
