LETTER TO THE EDITOR /  THE PROTECTOR NATION

By Roger C. Kostmayer

Whether it’s selecting a candidate for an important job, a candidate for elected office, or choosing the political party that best represents your values and issues, it’s important to examine goals and resumes (CVs).  Studies show that the best indicator of future results is  past performance.

Since we are living in challenging times, the quality of US political leadership we choose (determined at the ballot box) will most likely decide our nation’s success or failure – so what are our political parties  about?

The Democrats, mostly unified and led by the current president, have clearly stated (and often implemented) a platform that focuses on (and tries to implement) a spectrum of protective solutions, starting with bipartisan actions that protect our democracy and constitution.  Internationally, the Dems want to lead nations that will protect small vulnerable countries from dictator aggressors, and insure peace and prosperity wherever possible.  This starts with protecting Ukraine, Israel and a Two State solution in the Middle East.

Domestically, the Dems want to protect Health Care for all; women’s rights; Social Security; children and professional educators; a survivable climate; working families; all minorities; veterans; fair, safe and easy voting procedures everywhere; reasonable and immediate gun reform; and the peaceful transition of political power.

The objectives and details of each party should and will be debated, but none of the Dems objectives appeal to Trump’s MAGA political party, and there’s a critical difference between leaders motivated to achieve constructive solutions and those without a plan who prefer obstruction and chaos.

Think – and then vote.
