Letter to the Editor / Key west cruise ships

Hi. I’m a resident of Key west, Florida. We recently had a vote to restrict big cruise ships from porting here in order to preserve our vulnerable reef, which is dying by the day. It passed! We were all as a community so very grateful! Well, this week, the state government overturned that rule. The thing that confuses me is that the constitution clearly states this: The constitution further states that ordinances passed by home rule charter cities and counties take precedence over conflicting state laws as to local affairs. State laws take precedence over home rule charter ordinances as to matters that are not local affairs. The thing that makes this fishy is that the operator of the port recently donated almost 1 million dollars to our Governor, Ron Desantis! Here is the article with the details https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.miamiherald.com/news/politics-government/state-politics/article250934164.html I feel this is a great story to consider for your show. I’m a loyal viewer and enjoy your program. Desantis has continued to commit fraudulent acts  because of donations. These acts include:  handing out vaccinations to his top contributors ( before others that should have received them) and most recently, this donation in order to over turn our votes to better big business on  our small 2×4 island. We voted As  the constitution of the United States of America clearly states – should be honored. What happened to the constitution? Are we now living in a time in which our rights no longer matter? We are a tiny 2x 4 mile island filled with the latitude and longitude of the entire world because our motto is “ one human family” Thank you for your time and I hope you consider this as a story, because us KW citizens want to preserve the waters and wildlife that we love.

Sincerely,
Erin McKenna
Key West
