Letter to the Editor / IF NOT NOW – WHEN?

By Roger C. Kostmayer

When should Russian President Putin be stopped?  Once again a ruthless dictator (like Hitler) is using war and slaughter to devour smaller nations, one at a time.

Putin will always make sure his military is the Goliath that uses death, destruction, threats and war crimes – while keeping democracies at bay by threatening nuclear WW III.

History teaches us that appeasing military invaders doesn’t work.  What the world faces at this moment is a point where the 35 NATO nations, the European Union, the UN and the US must act as one to insure that all of Ukraine and its people survive as a free sovereign nation.

In time, perhaps when the Russian people refuse to support an unstable tyrant and their troops depart Ukraine, diplomacy will assume its proper role.  But, in the meantime, all military options should be on the table, because failure is not an option.

The world community must make sure humanity has a future based, not on military might but, on freedom and respect for independent sovereignty.
