LETTER TO THE EDITOR / CRIMES OF COMMISSION AND OMISSION

By  Roger C. Kostmayer

Facts are facts, truth is truth and no one is above the law.  The bipartisan January 6 Committee is doing an excellent job of documenting what former president Trump and others knew, intended and did regarding the January 6 assault on our US Capitol.  Both history and the American people need to know the truth, and the legislative committee’s responsibility is to get all the facts that will enable it to recommend changes that will prevent anything similar from ever happening again.  Simply said, Trump was clearly at the center of a plot to overturn a free and fair American election and overthrow the US government – in order for Trump to hold onto dictatorial power.

This is the first time in American history  any president attempted to illegally prevent the peaceful transition of power so he could retain it.  The evidence is clear that Trump failed his oath as President and Commander-in-Chief because he became the insurrection inciter-in-chief.

There is no defense for Trump’s actions and failures to protect Americans and our precious democracy.  There must be accountability or there will be no deterrence in the future – and that means investigation and proper prosecution by both the Department of Justice and others like the prosecutor in Georgia.
