Letter to the Editor / COURAGEOUS CAPTAIN CROZIER

By Roger C. Kostmayer

The first duty of every naval officer, from Ensign to Admiral, is to complete his or her mission and protect everyone under his or her command.

During wartime or under similar conditions, the Captain of a US warship would be in the most difficult position imaginable if he was informed that 130 members of his officers and crew were infected with a deadly virus.  Most likely, if the ship was still functioning, the Capt. would be forced to find ways to complete the mission (which likely affects the lives of many) while simultaneously doing everything at his disposal to save and protect both the infected and others aboard his ship.

Capt. Crozier, the Commanding Officer of the USS Teddy Roosevelt (a magnificent nuclear aircraft carrier) found himself in a similar situation, except it was not during wartime.  Apparently, Capt. Crozier was not getting the medical and other command support he believed was critical for the survival of some of his crew. In desperation, he wrote a letter and sent it up the chain of command hoping this would force some attention and medical support for his shipmates.

The letter did get attention – but no medical support.  Somewhere, the letter was leaked to the press and the public became aware of the inexcusable incompetence and the inappropriate focus on politics while American lives were at stake.  The Secretary of the Navy, a civilian political appointee of the President’s, was so enraged that a subordinate complained about Coronavirus, contradicting the reelection focused Commander in Chief who was telling America that everything was beautiful and would be perfect by Easter, that he (allegedly driven by a furious President) personally flew to the Far East to insult the, now fired, Capt. to the entire ship’s crew.

The most obvious conclusions drawn from this fiasco are:  The now former Navy Secretary is an incompetent craven coward;  the Commander in Chief is, as we know, a narcissistic moron; Capt. Crozier is an outstanding officer, an American hero, and is now infected with Covid-19; and publicity like this should insure the sick and vulnerable crew members aboard the TR receive the proper medical attention they deserve.
