Letter to the Editor / ADAPTING

By Roger C. Kostmayer

A moment ago we were in the midst of a riveting DRAMA – primary battles and TV debates; partisan division, Joe jousting with Bernie; guessing who would be Vice President; and racing toward the most important election in history.

Suddenly, like someone switched the TV channel, we were in a tragic OPERA.  We had a mad King, rebellious youth, Italian-American heroes named Dr. Fauci and Governor Cuomo valiantly wielding truth, facts and compassion to fend off the enemy.

Now, with geometric increases in the number of human victims of an alien enemy and the necessary imposition of sheltering-in-place, it looks and feels like we’re in a science fiction FILM.  Earthlings are fleeing, the streets are empty, a few rebels are called terrorists, and humanity longs to touch and protect one another.

If we achieve a nationally supported and coordinated response to this pandemic, the next  EPISODE could be positive and hopeful. It’s up to us, but only tomorrow knows.
