Letter To Editor / Trump’s Pope

By Rick Boettger

Trump has elected the first American Pope.

Anti-Trump candidates won elections in Canada, Australia, and even India, sticking big thumbs in his eye, to the great joy of   Blue pundits.  Mentioned a little bit is speculation that the secret conclave moved toward a surprise, unlikely first American to become the new Pope in large part due to his criticism of Trump*, most notably in social media posts against Vance’s anti-immigration views.

Shouldn’t Trump’s opponents have at least mixed emotions about the sort of power this hate is bestowing upon him?  He already commands the full attention of liberal media, where he’s 90% of their programming.  And the only platform of the Democratic party now is proudly Resistance!  They seem to relish giving him complete control of the narrative, here and abroad.

Meanwhile, Trump is compiling a list of early accomplishments, whether you like them or not, unmatched in Presidential history. So far, it’s:

  •  Mexican border almost completely closed
  • Trade deals in record time while challenging the 30-year globalization doctrine
  • Reduced prescription prices
  • Got the last American Hamas hostage released
  • Kept the government open, at great cost to his arch-enemy Schumer
  • Bombed the Yemeni Houthis into declaring a truce in their attacks on Red Sea shipping
  • Banned the food dyes long banned by everyone else
  • Got a free Air Force 1 from Qatar because Boeing was taking too long, while helping get hundreds of new orders for them, notably from Qatar and British Airways
  • Took a chance on the questionable new Syria

That’s the Good.  What’s not yet good or bad are Ukraine and his One Big Beautiful Bill.  Don’t vote against either.

As to the just plain Bad, note that the Blues say everything he does is Bad.  They don’t think  even any of the above are good, except maybe the hostage release.  On Morning Joe, even the border closure is entirely about the imprisoned Ecuadorian.  Passing any budget bill and any Ukraine agreement will bring just more outrage to Morning Joe.

But the objective measure of Good has to be what the American people voted for, and everything Trump is doing is what he said, repeatedly, he would do.

So even the following would not be Bad to Trump’s MAGA faithful, but are the most questionable to us in the middle–I’ve just decided to call us the “middle majority,” which I hope catches on.

  • The Qatari gift jet** is getting the most Red criticism, even from both of Florida’s Senators
  • Some of the DOGE cuts are preposterous, like NOA just before hurricane season
  • Cruel deportations of completely harmless unregistered aliens

So that’s the mid-term grade from Professor Rick of the Middle Majority, a new moniker that is really starting to catch on.

* “He is anti-Trump, anti-MAGA, pro-open Borders, and a total Marxist like Pope Francis,” Loomer wrote on X.

** The Qatari jet was also made by Boeing, just 22 years younger, larger, and more fuel-efficient.  We’d only be using it because Boeing is years behind in replacing our old one. And it’s not as though Trump has any say on its use, nor can he ever sell it.
