Key West, Florida — Last Stand, a longstanding environmental and civic advocacy organization in the Florida Keys, is proud to announce the appointment of Jordan Mannix-Lachner as its first-ever Executive Director.

Founded in 1987, Last Stand has operated for nearly four decades as a volunteer-led nonprofit dedicated to protecting the unique natural environment and quality of life in the Florida Keys. Its mission focuses on safeguarding water quality and natural resources, opposing overdevelopment, and promoting affordable housing and livability through public education, engagement, and advocacy.

The hiring of a full-time Executive Director signals a new era for Last Stand, one marked by a renewed commitment to strengthening its capacity and expanding its impact in response to growing threats to the region’s fragile ecosystems, infrastructure, and communities.

Mannix-Lachner is a seasoned urban planner and environmental advocate with a background in public policy, land use, and community engagement. Most recently, she worked as a planner for the City of Key West, where she helped shape land development policies and led initiatives to promote climate resilience, responsible development, and affordable housing.

A native of the Keys, Mannix-Lachner has also worked with national organizations like the Center for Biological Diversity on efforts to protect endangered species and habitat in Florida. She holds a Master of Science in Natural Resource Management & Administration from the University of Florida and a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Barnard College at Columbia University. Her local community involvement includes serving on the board of May Sands Montessori School and the Florida Market Leadership Advisory Board for the U.S. Green Building Council.

“I’m honored to lead Last Stand at such a pivotal moment for the Keys,” said Mannix-Lachner. “We are facing intensifying environmental, economic, and social pressures—from rising seas to runaway development. Last Stand has a long and proud history of standing up for what matters most in this community. I’m excited to build on that legacy and help shape a more sustainable future for our community and the invaluable ecosystems that support us.”

“Jordan brings an extraordinary blend of policy expertise, local insight, and heartfelt dedication to the Florida Keys,” said Chris Massicotte, President of Last Stand. “Her leadership marks an exciting new chapter for our organization—one that will amplify our voice, expand our impact, and deepen our connection to the community we serve. We’re absolutely thrilled to welcome her aboard.”

The Board of Directors echoed this sentiment in a joint statement:

“We’re excited to welcome Jordan and look forward to the energy and direction she brings to Last Stand. Her deep understanding of the challenges facing the Keys positions us to take bold action, engage more voices, and build lasting change for our environment and communities.”To learn more about Last Stand or to get involved, visit www.keyslaststand.org.
