The World Famous Schooner Wharf Bar on Key West Bight at the foot of William Street, hosts the Official Kick-Off event of our 35th Anniversary as the “People Who Seceded Where Others Failed” beginning at 7pm on Friday the 21st.   Charles Kuralt, imbibing his first cocktail at the Schooner Wharf, mused, “…this must be the center of the Universe
Schooner Wharf Bar is gearing up for the traditional start of the Conch Republic Independence Celebration at the annual Conch Shell Blowing Contest at the Schooner Wharf Conch Republic Independence Celebration Kick-Off Party.
Local “Conch-Republicans” and visitors can compete for prizes awarded for the Longest, Loudest and Most Musical trumpet of Key West’s namesake mollusk.
Six winners will take home gifts from Cruzan Rum and Landshark Lager, water adventures compliments of Sebago Watersports, Sunset Watersports, Schooner America 2.0, Spirit of Independence and other treasures courtesy of Schooner Wharf Bar.
    
 The colorful Caribbean Queen Junkanoos, a  celebratory parade with traditional Bahamian instruments of drums, cowbells, whistles and horns in festive, colorful costumes will parade through Schooner Wharf from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Adding to the festivities are the Caribbean dance rhythms of The Cayo Ritmo Band. They play an eclectic mix of reggae, calypso, soca, cha-cha, as well rock, R&B and funk.  Expect high-energy dance sets and improvisational inter-play between the steel pan and guitar and Latin percussion jam sessions. Definitely bring your dancing shoes…

The Captain’s Meeting for All Vessels in the Great Battle
Tuesday, April 25th at 9pm
The mandatory Captain’s Meeting for the Great Sea Battle will be held at 9 pm at the Schooner Wharf Bar on Tuesday the 26rh of April. If you want to be in the Great Battle you must attend the Captain’s Meeting.  Vessels not registered will not be allowed to participate. No exceptions.  Special flags will be issued to participating vessels that must be flown during the Battle. Vessels withoutspecial battle flags will be allowed to enter the closed battle area of the harbor during the battle.
