ISLAMORADA, FL – Keys History & Discovery Center Presents…lecture series continues Wednesday, Oct. 27, with Breaths That Count: History of Island Dolphin Care by Founder Deena Hoagland, LCSW. Guests can attend in person or participate virtually. Advanced registration is required.

Through the lecture learn how, in a desperate search to help her son who was born with a rare heart anomaly, who was then left neurologically impaired after a surgery, Hoagland stumbled upon a small dolphin facility in Key Largo. Learn how her son Joe formed a friendship with a dolphin named Fonzie that ultimately led to his recovery and the formal creation of a not-for-profit organization providing hope, empowerment, and courage to many.

Registration for virtual participants can be made up to one hour before the start of the lecture. In-person registration closes on Friday, Oct. 22 to ensure adequate seating and appetizers. Doors to the Discovery Center open at 5:30 p.m., with the presentation beginning at 6 p.m. Cash bar and light appetizers available prior to presentation. Lectures are free for members. For non-members, cost for in-person is $10 and virtual participation is $5.
