Keys AHEC Health Centers Receive Blue Foundation Award

AHEC’s School Health Center Program Awarded $20,000 at the Sapphire Awards

 (April 20, 2017 – Orlando, FL) – Keys AHEC was awarded $20,000 at the Florida Blue Foundation’s Sapphire Award ceremony recognizing the impact the School Health Center program has had on providing No Cost primary care services to the students of Monroe County,

The Health Centers are located at seven different school sites throughout Monroe County and offer access to quality health care services through four Nurse Practitioners or Physician Assistants who staff the clinics. These no cost sites for students are open a half-hour prior to school to a half-our after school.

“This program has provided primary care for our county’s most medically vulnerable children taking away all barriers to care and creating easily accessible sites” stated Michael Cunningham, CEO of AHEC. Cunningham also gave credit to the Blue Foundation for their recognition “Receiving the award was greatly appreciated as many people have assisted this program in its growth and success all while benefiting our kids.”

The Florida Blue Foundation also has awarded Keys AHEC a $270,000 Grant over 3 years to support the continuing efforts of providing quality healthcare in Monroe County.
