Key West VFW Post 3911 Supports Scholarship for Veterans, Service Members, Dependents

KEY WEST, FL, July 27, 2017—The Southernmost Post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) donated $2,000 to the Florida Keys Community College Foundation to support the “VFW Post 3911 Ed Moran Memorial Scholarship.” The VFW Commander Abe Conn and several of the group’s leaders visited the Key West Campus recently to present the donation to FKCC President Dr. Jonathan Gueverra.

Established in 2015, this scholarship pays tribute to the late VFW Post Commander.  The $1,000 award provides financial assistance to veterans, service members, and their dependents so that they may complete their educational goals without incurring excessive student loan debt.  This year’s awardees are Josh Ash and Isabel Fernandez Cardenas.

Moran, who passed in 2012, was a Marine Corp veteran and served two tours in Vietnam.  After a career as a helicopter mechanic and chief engineer in oil fields in Texas and Louisiana, Moran moved to Key West to enjoy fishing and writing.  Through the VFW, he and his wife Lucy devoted countless hours to helping veterans and their families in this community.
