Key West Theater Announces 2017 Summer Series

This summer the Key West Theater will continue to host some of the biggest names in the entertainment business, along with a free movie series and a friendly island-wide artistic challenge. In addition, the Theater’s School for the Performing Arts will be holding a weeklong summer workshop from July 17-21.
Dave Mason, The Dan Band, Puddles Pity Party and Donavon Frankenreiter are just a few of the popular acts already on the Theater’s exciting summer concert schedule.
The Second Annual Summer(ish) Fun Movie Series kicks off on June 28th with the classic comedy Caddyshack. Next up is the Key West Picture Show; a fast-paced satire of the 1950’s travelogues that explore Key West. Also on the docket are all-time favorite, Austin PowersThe Grateful Dead Movie, The Big Lebowski, an interactive Labyrinth Sing-Along, Lucid by local filmmakers Michael Marrero and Chris Shultz, The Muppet Movie and more.
Possibly the most highly anticipated event of the summer season will be the Key West Theater’s Summer Smackdown. Artist of all mediums (visual arts or performing arts) can sign up for an island-wide artistic challenge that calls to create original material inspired by a specific theme in whatever artistic medium they choose. Final works will be shown at the Key West Theater August 23rd-26th.
In addition, the Key West Theater will also be holding auditions for the 2017/18 season on June 10, hosting the Bubba Awards on July 15, and producing a reading of the play Penang by James Larocca.
