Key West NOW Women’s Film Fest Closes with “The Janes”

By Women, About Women, FOR Everyone

Key West – After tremendous success, the Third Annual Women’s Film Festival closes its five-movie run with “The Janes,” including discussion afterwards with original members of the historic women’s health collective. The Janes provided an estimated 11,000 safe abortions in the Chicago area between 1969 and 1972, when eleven Jane members were arrested. Charges against them were dropped when Roe v. Wade was decided in 1973.

Next year, the Fourth Annual Key West NOW Women’s Film Festival promises another series of fabulous films By Women, About Women and FOR everyone. Like the past three festivals, it will be a mix of historic films, comedies, documentaries, block busters and foreign films, all designed to entertain and educate the audience.

The Key West Chapter of the National Organization for Women (NOW) promotes woman’s rights to reproductive health care, fairness in education and employment, freedom from violence, justice for LGBTQIA citizens and life without racism. The Tropic Cinema is an award-winning, independent, non-profit theater showing popular, classic, foreign, regional and experimental films.

The showing begins at 6:00 p.m. Admission to this important film will be by donation. The screening will be held in the spacious Carper Theater at The Tropic.
