It’s nice to have a memory of our good friend Dink but Key West Lou’s piece is filled with inaccuracies.
To say that “Dink never worked a day in his life. Apparently sustained himself from the contents in the boxes found in the back room at Sloppy Joe’s.”
The above statement is one that is just flat out wrong. During his life Dink held a number of jobs, although he was never the 9-5 type of guy. In particular he was in the Coast Guard, he was a movie fixer for a number of movies filmed in both Montana and the Keys, he was an artist, a painter a sculptor, he created and sold ginger bread for historic homes among a few. And in fact he never realized any meaningful compensation from his Hemingway collection while he was alive.
