KEY WEST CARES HURRICANE DORIAN RELIEF ANNOUNCES FIRST CARAVAN OF CESSNAS DEPART KEY WEST INT’L AIRPORT WITH RELIEF SUPPLIES FOR GREEN TURTLE CAY ON SEPTEMBER 6

KEY WEST CARE DONATION DROP OFF SITES NOW OPEN

KEY WEST, FLORIDA KEYS & THE CONCH REPUBLIC…Key West Cares, an organized group of Key West locals, community leaders, City officials, church leaders, and national and international partners working with the Bahamian government to coordinate emergency aid, is sending a caravan of three Cessnas to Eleuthera, loaded with over 6,000 pounds of donated goods for residents of Green Turtle Cay, Key West’s sister city.

Sponsored by the Linda Turek, the Toppino and Spottswood families, and others in the Keys community, the planes depart Key West International Airport on Sept. 6.

Formed in response to the devastation left after CAT 5 Hurricane Dorian, Key West Cares, Hurricane Dorian Relief, a 501(c)(3), is focused on providing immediate and ongoing aid to families of our Sister City, New Plymouth, Green Turtle Cay, and neighboring islands.

The Conch Republic Air Force and other aircraft are preparing to deploy to the Abacos with relief cargo and the Conch Republic Navy is mobilizing a series of flotillas to depart to Green Turtle Cay as soon as the US and Bahamian governments confirm it is safe to do so.

Transporting relief cargo to Green Turtle Cay is not cheap and Key West Cares Hurricane Dorian Relief is raising funds to cover these costs. A Key West Cares Benefit Concert and Silent Auction is scheduled for Sat, Sept. 14 at the Key West Theater, 512 Eaton St. (doors open at 6pm) and cash donations can be made online.  Donations are tax deductible; 100% of all funds raised go directly to relief efforts and subsidize future caravans and flotillas.

Donation Drop Off locations are now set up at Unity Church of the Keys (Sun-Thurs 10am-2pm) and Winn Dixie (Key West, Big Pine and Marathon) and GFS during regular business hours.  For those who prefer to shop online, visit the Key West Cares Hurricane Dorian Disaster Relief at on Target.com.

Immediate critical needs include water, canned and packaged foods, baby food/formula, first aid supplies, mosquito repellent, flashlights, lanterns, batteries, hand tools, blankets and sheets.  Comfortable, easy to care for clothing for babies, toddlers, youth and adults of all ages and sizes is also needed.
