Key West Art & Historical Society’s Annual Back in Time Fundraiser and Speakeasy set for February 17, 2023

KEY WEST, FL-  Dust off your best pinstriped suits and your spangled flapper dresses for an evening of fun and cheer at Key West Art & Historical Society’s “Back in Time at the A1A Speakeasy” fundraiser, taking place Friday, February 17, from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.  Proceeds support the ongoing preservation needs of the island’s architectural crown jewel, the Key West Museum of Art & History, now celebrating its 132nd anniversary.

Step back into the Prohibition Era of the 1920s for a party like you have never seen as the Society transforms the courtyard of the Fort East Martello Museum into the A1A Speakeasy.  The fundraiser will be one to remember as it will include an open bar, a plated surf n’ turf meal prepared by Catered Affairs, a special Rumrunners Lounge featuring local rum distillers Papa’s Pilar and Key West Legal Rum, hand-rolled cigars from Rodriguez Cigars, and live music from local musicians featuring special guests.  Guests are encouraged to dress in period attire; emulate a carefree flapper, your favorite moving picture star, or perhaps a celebrated sports figure from the 1920s.  There will be prizes for “Best Dressed.”

We will also be raising a toast to Bert Bender, Key West architect and preservationist, who is the recipient of the 2023 Scotti Merrill Preservation Award for his ongoing dedication to the historic preservation of our museum.  The annual accolade honors an individual who has dedicated him or herself to preserving the cultural heritage of the Florida Keys.

Step “Back in Time” to invest in the future; purchase a single ticket for $200 or sponsor a table for $1,600, $2,500, $5,000 or more.  Proceeds will be contributed to the Community Foundation of the Florida Keys’ Custom House Preservation Fund.  For tickets visit www.kwahs.org/bit or contact Event Coordinator Bonnie McInnis at 305-295-6616 x 505.
