Key West Art & Historical Society Offers Teen Camp Scholarship Opportunities
Several scholarships are available for teens interested in upcoming Key West Art & Historical Society Teen Camp workshops: Fossil Lab, which takes place June 12– June 16, and two consecutive Pinhole Photography Camps: Technique, which runs June 19- June 23, and Creating a Body of Work, June 26-June 30. Workshops run from 9am-4pm at Fort East Martello, 3501 S. Roosevelt Blvd.
Teen Fossil Camp, taught by sand-sculptor Marianne van den Broek, guides students in learning how to sculpt and cast bones working with tools in clay, plaster, and sand, with an educational focus on science, math and critical thinking. Teen Pinhole Photography Camp, taught by Jodell Roberts, explores the physics of light, mechanics of the pinhole camera and elements of chemistry while students gain a foundation of art, design and the creative process through the world of film photography. These sessions encourage teens and the more mature pre-teen to a week of creativity, empowerment, and educational excellence.
“The majority of summer programs available in Key West target younger age groups,” said Williams. “KWAHS recognizes the demand for teen programming and hopes that by offering camps like Fossil Lab and Pinhole Photography that parents will have a more constructive outlet for their teens.”
