Key West Art Center and Gallery presents 12th annual Plein Air Key West on March 14

Key West Art Center and Gallery, which is celebrating their 60th year in its present location at 301 Front Street, will present the 12th annual Plein Air Key West on March 14 from 5 to 7 pm. Artists in all media are welcome and can register at the gallery to participate between 8:30 to 9:30 am with artists returning completed art work back to the gallery by 1:30 pm to participate in the evening show. 

The Key West Art Center and Gallery is pleased to include Key West High School art students in this event sponsored by a Florida Keys Council of the Arts Special Project Grant, and the State of Florida, Division of Cultural Affairs. 

Through this grant, The Key West Art Center, The Next Generation, students receive special instruction in plein air at the high school taught by artists from the gallery. This first-time event helps students understand plein air painting, gives students plein air art supplies and allows them side-by-side painting experience with participating artists at the event.  The art students’ plein air works will be on display in the gallery the night of the show.

Plein Air Key West is an all-inclusive and fun event that attracts local artists and talented amateurs throughout the Keys with many visiting artists planning their trips to Key West around this time to participate. Watercolor, acrylic, oil and pastel paintings, charcoal and pencil sketch artists are all welcome.

The public is invited to a pre-registration and a welcome event at the Key West Art Center and Gallery March 13 at 4:00 pm which will include a plein air demonstration by John Clayton, a talented and entertaining plein air painter from Provincetown, Rhode Island.  

The Key West Art Center and Gallery and Plein Air Key West invite all to attend the reception March 14 from 5 to 7 pm where all art work will be available for sale, People’s Choice awards and special student awards will be presented.
