Key Largo man charged with aggravated battery, burglary

A fight between neighbors this morning led to the arrest of  Key Largo man for aggravated battery and burglary.

The victims, two men aged 52 and 20, told Deputy Gil Gonzalez they were hanging out at the home on Oakwood Avenue at 5 a.m. when a woman who lives nearby knocked on the door. They invited her inside. The 20 year old victim told Deputy Gonzalez they knew the woman. He said she had come to the house before when she was having trouble with her boyfriend. A short time later, her boyfriend, 35 year old Angel Ortega, came to the house. He forced his way in, breaking the window in the front door.

A fight ensued between Ortega and the two victims. When Deputy Gil Gonzalez arrived, he found the 52 year old victim bleeding from a wound on his face with other injuries to various areas of his body; the 20 year old victim had a hand injury. Ortega had fled the home but was apprehended nearby and was arrested. His girlfriend, who was still on the scene, refused to give any information about what took place.

Ortega was arrested. He was charged with aggravated battery, criminal mischief and burglary. He was taken to jail. The 52 year old victim was treated at Mariner’s Hospital and then transferred to Kendall Regional Hospital due to the severity of his injuries.
