Kerry Shelby Appointed Executive Director of FKAA
Florida Keys – January 26, 2021, The Florida Keys Aqueduct Authority Board of Directors selected Kerry Shelby on Tuesday to take the helm as Executive Director. Mr. Shelby has been at the Authority for over 25 years and brings extensive experience to the position. During his tenure, the Authority has won multiple awards for budgeting and financial reporting. He was also instrumental in the Authority’s initiative to provide centralized wastewater to the Florida Keys.
As Executive Director, Mr. Shelby will manage the operations of the water and wastewater utility. The Authority is the sole potable water supplier for the entire Florida Keys serving over 77,000 residents and millions of visitors per year. The Authority additionally provides wastewater services in portions of the Lower and Middle Keys which is critical infrastructure in the effort to protect nearshore waters and the imperiled coral reef.
Noting Mr. Shelby’s 17-year tenure as Deputy Executive Director, Authority Chairman J. Robert Dean stated, “The Aqueduct is fortunate he has agreed to step-up as the new Executive Director and personally I think there is not a finer gentleman on the island.”
In addition to his previous service with the Authority, Mr. Shelby has been involved with many cultural and charitable organizations since moving to Key West in 1991. He has served on the boards of the Tennessee Williams Theatre, AIDS Help, the Community Foundation of the Florida Keys, the Key West Art & Historical Society, and The Studios of Key West.
Mr. Shelby is a licensed CPA in the State of Florida and graduate of the University of Tennessee. The appointment is effective immediately.
