Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary Advisory Council to hold emergency virtual meeting on Tuesday, April 27, to discuss possible cruise ship resolution

The Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary Advisory Council will hold an emergency virtual meeting 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on April 27, 2021. This emergency meeting is being convened to seek public input on a potential cruise ship resolution before the Florida legislative session concludes on April 30, 2021.

The Sanctuary Advisory Council is a community-based group of volunteers established to provide advice and recommendations to the superintendent. The opinions and findings of the Council do not necessarily reflect the position of the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, or the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

The advisory council will potentially take action on a resolution urging the Florida legislature to protect valuable and sensitive marine habitats from large cruise ships. A copy of the draft resolution is available on the website. Public comment on this potential action will be accepted during that agenda item by advanced registration only. In order to provide oral public comment, participants must join the webinar online.
