Joe Garcia, Scott Fuhrman and Infectious Disease Expert Discuss Critical Need for Zika Funds

Today, former Congressman Joe Garcia was joined by CD27 congressional candidate Scott Fuhrman and Assistant Professor Consuelo Beck-Sagué, M.D. for a press conference to discuss the growing dangers of Zika in South Florida. Dr. Beck-Sagué is a pediatric infectious disease subspecialist and spoke about the growing risks of both mosquito and sexually transmitted infections. Garcia and the local leaders spoke about the need for immediate congressional action to fund prevention and vaccination efforts.

“The Center for Disease Control will run out of Zika funding this month, yet Carlos Curbelo has voted nine times to block the fully funded Zika bill from a vote in Congress—our families, our doctors and our hospitals need funding to combat Zika. Our doctors and families deserve better than Curbelo’s failed leadership,” said Joe Garcia, candidate for Florida’s 26th Congressional District.

Garcia has been vocal about the need to approve full funding for the efforts to eliminate Zika. Garcia co-wrote a letter with Congressman Filemon Vela (D-TX) demanding congressional leadership take immediate action to address the Zika crisis.
