“The National Association of Home Builders estimates that the tariffs the Trump administration placed on Canadian softwood lumber — along with other factors — have increased the cost of constructing a house by $7,000.”
Oh BS.
So we import Canadian lumber, while we cannot log or even “salvage log” all those trees burning on western federal land in the West! The irony is that we can’t log those trees because of some “endangered species”. Well maybe forest fires will eliminate those “endangered species”. What will be our excuse then! Why is it Canadian trees aren’t so special as they are being cut down from their forests?
Further, in another article, homebuilders lamented that there is a shortage of workers as millennials aren’t choosing lucrative construction jobs. This results in increased labor costs because of the construction job labor shortage.
“Overall, the aluminum and steel tariffs could cost….”
So let me get this right.
The US no longer has a domestic aluminum or steel industry to supply the needs of users. So the US no longer mines, ships or makes aluminum or steel to satiate our requirements. We are forced to rely on foreign entities to provide those vital items. Why did those industries evaporate from the USA, aren’t they vital?
So we have to import those necessary commodities. Yea, Pres Trump is correct that this is a “national security” matter. In the event of a need, such as a war, where would our needs come from? China, Canada, Russia…yea this makes perfect sense!
I guess our vulnerabilities are being exposed. Maybe this will force us to correct our ways.
