I Was Wrong!

When you’re wrong, you’re wrong and must own up to it!

I was wrong about Met Shortstop Francisco Lindor and here’s why.

Rookie New York Met owner Steve Cohen traded for and signed Lindor in 2020.  The deal was for 10 years for the then astronomical sum of $341,000,000.

In the years following the signing I was of the outspoken opinion that Cohen had made a “Rookie Mistake” as Lindor batted .230, .270 and .254 in the 3 seasons following the signing and then, this year, .083 in March and .210 in April.

My oft repeated opinion was that he was not living up to, or worth, $34,000,000/year with those stats.

My Met fan friends defended Lindor and rationalized/excused that he played superior defense at the most important Shortstop position, stole bases, hit in the clutch, drove in runs and played every day.

Then, when it mattered most, he sustained the above attributes and began to hit and hit he did on Monday when (pictured) he hit a dramatic 9th inning, come from behind, 2 run Homer to win the crucial game and clinch a spot for his Mets in post season play.  It rivaled Bobby Thompson’s “Shot Heard ‘Round The World” in 1951 and was even more extraordinary since Lindor had been injured and missed recent games due to debilitating back injury.

I reiterate, I was wrong and Hats Off to Francisco and, as reward, the Mets should make him Captain!

PS: I hope my Yankees’, soon to be free agent, Juan Soto doesn’t read this blog and be tempted by Steve Cohen!
