How to get around Key West and what to do with your car when you get here

KEY WEST – Few island issues rile residents more than parking and biking and no one knows that better than the two men responsible for the implementation of Key West’s parking, biking and pedestrian rules.

Chris Hamilton, Key West’s bicycle and pedestrian coordinator, and John Wilkins, the city’s parking director, will be the featured speakers at the League of Women Voters’ Civics Lesson, 5 p.m.-7 p.m., Wednesday, March 22, One Island Family.

Hamilton and Wilkins will explain the city’s regulations, their approaches to implementation and the challenges they face as they balance a complicated mix of residents, tourists, vendors and ongoing construction. They will also answer questions.

The Lower Keys chapter of the league designed their Civics Lessons to educate members about the roles and responsibilities of government departments. Speakers talk about their departments and the structures, funding and policies that shape what they do.

The Civics Lesson is open to the public.
