Homestead man arrested for lobster violations
A 24-year-old Homestead, Florida man was arrested Monday by a Sheriff’s Office Marine Patrol deputy, charged with lobster violations.
Deputy Willie Guerra was on patrol in the area of the 71-mile marker of the highway near the Channel Five Bridge at 3 p.m. when he spotted Juan Reyes Morales in the water without a dive flag. As he watched, Reyes wrung the tail off of a lobster and placed it into a white bag which he then placed underneath a nearby dock.
Inspection of the bag revealed four lobsters, one of which had been speared, and one lobster tail.
Morales was arrested and charged with possession of undersized spiny lobster, possession of wrung in the water spiny lobster, having no measuring device while harvesting spiny lobster, and possession of speared lobster. He was booked into jail.
