HIGHER SELF HITCHHIKER

We all have an idea of Self, the center from which we take in the world around us, the position from which we make our decisions, the perspective of our personal experiences that culminate to form the ever-changing version of I. “I like this”, “I don’t like that”, “That makes me feel this way”, “What am I ever going to do about that”, and my personal favorite “Who am I”?  The identity of this person is known as the Ego. It’s the name on your driver’s license, your tax return, and your bank account. It’s the person responsible for your decisions. There’s probably some numerated version of it followed by the @ symbol where you receive your email. The Ego chooses your favorite foods, your friends, what programs you watch on television, and even the cloths you wear. None of these people are the True you.

In order to understand the nature of the True Self, it is important to first understand what we are not. Strangely enough, an unbreakable grip must be established on the Illusionary Self in order to release it. The construction of Ego has two major players, the Environment and the Individual. The irony of these players is that they are inseparable, they are so closely interrelated you eventually come to the inevitable conclusion that they are the same thing, one the Spirit Being the other Its Shadow.

For the basis of our understanding and a universal starting point we are going to consider them separate. Think of the Ego as if you are building a sand castle, you can manipulate and alter the environment only so much, a little less water, a little more water, a few tools to gather and smooth, a bucket and cup to mold and stack. The environment is the material and resources at hand. The Individual is the process of how you manage that matter and material, the way you choose to construct your castle. How many towers does it have, does it have a tall wall, a mote, are there walls within walls or cups stacked on buckets?

Behind all the painted illusions of the surface Self there exists something far greater, something that you’ve probably felt stir inside you, something that no surface characteristics can be attributed too. This life force has no favorite color, no plans for promotion, no worries about cleaning the house or paying the bills on time, this life force has no agenda, no fears, and only one emotion, Love. It exists as the perfect balance of life, 100% homeostasis, a self-leveling soul. This is the Higher Self Hitchhiker.

It’s extremely trendy, the talk of Ego, especially the process of trying to rid oneself of it.  It’s interesting how it seems necessary to apply Ego like a sunscreen, something to protect the inner self from the perceived harshness of others in the surrounding environment, proportionately the harsher the environment, the more sunscreen necessary. I found this self-applied solution to be faulty. Turns out the environment is us and us the environment. Higher self is the realization that we are all connected and when perfectly engaged, denying no part, the harmonics of life can be found emanating from the very environment we sought to protect ourselves against. Virtue has far healthier application outcomes than Ego. Only when we are open to each other are we open to our True self. See you on the beach!
