Hidden Camera Found in a Monroe County Park Restroom; County Staff Searched All County Facilities and Adding Routine Inspections

TAVERNIER – Detectives with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office in the Upper Keys are investigating three recent reports involving miniature hidden video cameras found in coat hooks placed in women’s restrooms.

They were found at Anne’s Beach on Thursday, the Circle K Store at the 99.8-mile marker on the Overseas Highway on Saturday and today at Monroe County’s Harry Harris Park in Tavernier.

Monroe County staff have searched every bathroom stall in every County facility to ensure that there are no more hidden cameras.

The Sheriff’s Office reports that all devices found so far look like simple white coat hooks. The camera is mounted behind it, using a tiny hole at the top for the lens. Motion activates the video cameras.

Assistant County Administrator Kevin Wilson, who oversees the Facilities Department, has mandated that searching for new things become a routine part of all janitorial cleaning and maintenance inspections.

If you find a hidden camera, report it to law enforcement.
