Health Department Recognizes Islamorada, Village of Islands, as a Healthy Weight Community Champion

The Florida Department of Health in Monroe County (DOH-Monroe) presented the Healthy Weight Community Champion Award to Islamorada, Village of Islands, at last night’s Village Council Meeting at Founders Park Community Center.  Islamorada was recognized as one of three local governments in Monroe County that has implemented a variety of best practice policies that have been shown to increase physical activity and improve nutrition.  Islamorada has a culture of health and is a popular destination for cycling racing and distance running.  Islamorada also recently installed new outdoor gym equipment at Founders Park and has made improvements to park playgrounds.  There are also pop-up farmer’s markets that operate at different times and locations throughout the Village.  The other municipalities, Key West and Marathon, were awarded earlier this month.  For more information about the recognition, visit www.healthiestweightflorida.com.
