HARC Resignation & New Appointment

Bert Bender Resignation / Haven Burkee Appointment

Mayor Teri Johnston has appointed Haven Burkee to fill the seat on the Historical Architectural Review Commission being vacated by the resignation of architect Burt Bender.

Burkee, also an architect, works with Bender at Bender & Associates Architects.

He has received the award for Excellence from the Historic Florida Keys Foundation five times. In addition, he received the Preservation Award from the Florida Trust for Historic Preservation for his work on the new Keys Energy Services building.

Burkee’s term will run until July of 2022.

HARC was created by the City Charter and oversees the preservation and conservation of the character, integrity, and appearance of the historic preservation districts and buildings individually listed in the National Register of Historic.
