GRAND JURY INDICTS TWO MONROE COUNTY MEN FOR CAPITAL SEXUAL BATTERY
KEY WEST, FL February 27, 2025 – A Monroe County Grand Jury has returned indictments against Michael Demerjian, 36, of Big Pine Key, and Mibsam Azaeel Barrios Jimenez, 21, of Key Largo, charging each with sexual battery on a child under 12, a capital felony under Florida Statute 794.011(2)(a). Maximum Sentence: Life in prison without the possibility of parole
Michael Demerjian Indictment
The indictment against Michael Demerjian alleges that on or about October 10, 2024, he committed sexual battery upon a minor under the age of 12. A capias warrant has been issued for his arrest. A judge has ordered that he be held without bond due to the severity of the charge.
Mibsam Barrios Jimenez Indictment
In a separate case, Mibsam Azaeel Barrios Jimenez has been indicted on two counts of sexual battery on a child under 12. The indictment alleges that the offenses occurred on multiple occasions between June 1 and July 31, 2024. A capias warrant has been issued for his arrest, and he has also been ordered to be held without bond under Florida law.
“These are serious charges, and our office remains committed to holding individuals accountable for crimes against children,” said State Attorney Dennis Ward. “We will work tirelessly to ensure that justice is served in these cases.”
Chief Assistant State Attorney Joseph Mansfield added, “The nature of these charges is deeply disturbing, and our office will aggressively prosecute both cases to the fullest extent of the law. We stand with the victims and their families, and we will not waver in our pursuit of justice.”
Both cases will be prosecuted by the Monroe County State Attorney’s Office, with Major Case Prosecutor, Assistant State Attorney Colleen Dunne, leading the prosecution.
