GOVERNOR DESANTIS VISITS MONROE COUNTY WITH HURRICANE AND AFFORDABLE HOUSING FUNDING ANNOUNCEMENT

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and Lieutenant Governor Jeanette Nunez were in Monroe County today to announce $21 million in Hurricane Irma reimbursements and $140 million for the construction of affordable housing for Hurricane Irma impacted communities. Of the $140 million, $35 million will be set aside for Monroe County.

 

Monroe County Mayor Sylvia Murphy, Commissioners Michelle Coldiron and David Rice, Monroe County Administrator Roman Gastesi, and other County and municipality officials were present for the announcement. Commissioner Coldiron thanked DeSantis, Nunez, and their staff for their commitment to Monroe County. ty officials were present for the announcement.

 

“The Florida Keys understand how hard it is to balance our tourism with our residents, and the decisions and actions the Governor has taken has shown that he truly cares about Monroe County,” said Coldiron. “He is our partner and we are thankful for his continual support for the Florida Keys.”

 

Lt. Gov. Nunez recognized the hard work in the aftermath of the hurricane and the resilience of Monroe County. She said the administration is committed to rebuilding better and stronger.

 

Mayor Murphy also presented Nunez with an Honorary Conch Certificate. She presented DeSantis his certificate during Florida Keys Day in March.
