Georgia worker rescued from top of Florida water tower

PALM COAST, Fla. (AP) — Firefighters rescued a man who suffered a heat-related illness while working on top of a water tower in Florida.

Local news outlets say the Flagler County technical rescue team led a “high angle rescue” on the 160-foot (48-meter) water tower in Palm Coast, on Florida’s Atlantic coast.

Palm Coast spokeswoman Cindi Lane tells reporters that Chris Young become ill just before 2 p.m. as he and two other contract workers were repairing the 500,000-gallon water tower. The rescue effort lasted about two hours.

Lane says Young is 26 or 27 years old and works for Utility Services, a Perry, Georgia company that contract with Palm Coast to perform maintenance on the tower.

Officials say crews lowered Young’s body temperature before lowering him via a harness and taking him to a hospital.
