Weekend traffic alert for the Florida Keys

 

  • The 6th Annual Le Tour De Keys bicycle ride on Friday — Ocean Reef to Key West

 

The bicycle ride starts at 6:30 a.m. at the Ocean Reef gate entrance in north Key Largo and heads south to Key West, where they are expected to arrive about 4 p.m.

 

There are only about 15 to 20 bicycle riders expected, so impact to traffic is expected to be minimal, however, motorists are asked to use caution in areas such as Mile Marker 106 where bicyclists normally cross U.S. 1.

 

The ride benefits the Florida Keys Children’s Shelter.

Upper Keys — Islamorada Island Fest on Saturday and Sunday, April 6 and April 7

 

  • Islamorada Island Fest wills impact traffic entering and exiting Islamorada, especially around Founder’s Park, Mile Marker 87, bayside, where the event is being held.

 

The event takes place from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday.

 

Expect even heavier than normal traffic starting on Friday. Expect delays.

Middle Keys — Seven Mile Bridge Run on Saturday, April 6

 

  • The Seven Mile Bridge Run will impact traffic both north and south for 2 1/2 hours at the bridge.

 

Motorists should plan to be across the bridge by 6:30 a.m. to avoid being stuck on one side or the other.

 

Traffic flow will resume at approximately 9 a.m., but usually takes at least an hour for traffic to return to normal.

 

Please plan any travel accordingly and please be patient. Expect delays.

Lower Keys and Key West —The Cow Key Bridge Run on Sunday, April 7

 

  • The Cow Key Channel Bridge Run will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

 

Traffic may be slow during those times. Expect delays.

  • Kid’s Fishing Tournament at the Old Wooden Bridge is Sunday, April 7

 

The tournament takes place on the bridge spanning No Name Key and Big Pine Key.

 

The center lane remains open and impacts to already low traffic are minimal, however motorists are asked to take extra care if they must drive over the bridge between 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Sunday, April 7, given this is a children’s event.
